Project Background

The City is planning to reconstruct E 5th St, between 24th Ave E and 31st Ave E, in the summer of 2025. This section of E 5th St has degraded over the years primarily due to age and poor drainage.

The following are included as part of the project:

  • Full excavation and replacement of the roadway

  • Complete replacement of pedestrian facilities

  • New drainage system to extend the life of the new roadway

  • Utility work

This area is identified as a multimodal corridor by the City's Active Transportation Plan. A primary goal of this project will be to improve all forms of transportation through this corridor while considering the character of the neighborhood.

Environmental stewardship, such as protection of trees and being sensitive to impervious surfaces, will also be carefully considered as the project proceeds.

Project will be funded through WisDOT local roads improvement program (LRIP) funds.
